Wie Europa seine wirtschaftliche Resilienz sichert, entscheidet sich zunehmend in der Kreislaufwirtschaft. Gemeinsam mit Knorr-Bremse startet CIRCULAR REPUBLIC, die Initiative für Kreislaufwirtschaft von UnternehmerTUM, den Circular Technology Award. Ziel ist es, innovative Green-Tech-Lösungen für automatisierte Demontage und das Recycling kritischer Rohmaterialien zu identifizieren und in die industrielle Anwendung zu bringen. 

CIRCULAR REPUBLIC, die Initiative für Kreislaufwirtschaft von UnternehmerTUM, hat heute zum dritten Jahr in Folge Start-up Landscape für den Bereich Circular Economy präsentiert. Die Datenerhebung geht in diesem Jahr über Deutschland hinaus und stellt als größte datenbasierte Analyse europäischer zirkulärer Start-ups eine Übersicht über Finanzierungstrends und Chancen zur Verfügung.

Ressourcenknappheit, unsichere Lieferketten und geopolitische Risiken - zirkuläre Wertschöpfungsmodelle werden zunehmend zum entscheidenden wirtschaftlichen Vorteil für Unternehmen. Eine Studie der Bertelsmann Stiftung und CIRCULAR REPUBLIC von UnternehmerTUM zeigt, warum die Kreislaufwirtschaft dennoch oftmals in Pilotprojekten stagniert.

In today's era of growing environmental concerns and limited resources, the concept of circular business models has gained significant traction. Circular textile business models provide economic benefits through cost savings, extended product life cycles, and new revenue streams, while also addressing environmental concerns by conserving resources, reducing waste, and lowering the carbon footprint.

Sustainable vehicles and batteries are the basis for the mobility of the future. Reliable and functioning recycling of traction batteries represents a central aspect for more sustainability in the emerging battery value chain for electromobility, as the increase in battery scrap and end-of-life batteries will rise sharply in the coming years.

For the first time, CIRCULAR REPUBLIC has published a start-up landscape for the circular economy sector, showing: the circular economy is increasingly becoming the core of the business model of young companies, especially in Germany.

With his co-founder Julian Hermsdorf, he built one of the first genuinely sustainable textile companies in the footwear segment and has witnessed the challenges and business opportunities offered by the circular economy.

We spoke with the three founding members, Dr. Matthias Ballweg, Dr. Susanne Kadner, and Niclas-Alexander Mauss, about their vision of a circular economy and concrete measures.

No doubt about it - One of the great challenges of this century, ours, and future generations is to combat the climate crisis. Experts from the International Resource Panel have found that raw materials extraction and processing account for more than 50% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This figure shows the enormous potential that the circular economy holds. But for this to happen, we also need a coherent understanding of how emissions reductions can be accounted for and how circular economy targets can be meaningfully linked to climate targets.
